"Free Time"? What's that?

So, I do other stuff aside from just carpentry. When I'm not helping with homework and playing games with my awesome son you might find me working on restoring a well used BMX bike (probably for him too). I love catching up with some of my old Army pals every now and then, or you might find me doing some web/graphic design for a friend. What I hope to be able to do in the not so distant future however, is to have the opportunity to help someone build a house from the dirt up.

What I Do

Web and Graphic Design

Web and Graphic Design

I actually made a run at becoming a Web Designer at one time in my life. It actually came about from my days as 3D rendering artist while redesigning the Maple Leaf Gardens with Turner Fleischer Architects. I learned a few pretty cool tricks along the way but ultimately it wasn't for me and my desire to serve in the Army brought it to an end. With that being said, this skillset has been easy to utilize for past employers looking to add a more professional online presence to their business when work slows up for a few days or when waiting for the next job to begin.

BMX Restoration

BMX Restoration

Growing up with race track in your town made for some very long days in the summer. I picked this hobby during the Covid shut-down it got borderline obsessive. I would buy a dilapidated BMX with good parts and strip it completely, repaint, refurbish all nuts and bolts and then head over to Harvester for new grips, tires and pedals.

Army

I can never tell what people really think about this one. I signed up towards the end of the War in Afghanistan so no tours, just training. Shortly thereafter, I met my son's mother so it was back to civilian life for this guy. Met some great people there, and some of my superiors were genuine, real-life heroes.

Even though my son would be shocked to learn that Dad can get caught going down a rabbit hole of videos I have to admit that it's a guilty pleasure of mine to get caught up watching the old-school master of framing Larry Haun smashing and twisting lumber into place. He makes framing a house look like an art form.
