This was a simple temporary stair I built for one of our formwork crews – obviously unfinished, with the railing yet to be added. A simple calculation of my total rise, divided by a perfect world 7″ gave me something like 6.879 risers. Rounded that up to 7 risers. Knowing my top riser delivers me up to ground level, I know I’ve got 6 treads. Using 10.5″ for tread depth, I know how to mark out the stringers. Since I had 2x10s at the ready I didn’t cut the stringer and used cleats to support the treads also providing ample material to attach handrail to. Because of landing the stair on uneven ground, I cut them 2″ long, dry-fit the stringers in place and scribed the bottom to ensure a level fit. On a side-note, I was also responsible for the formwork for the retaining wall just beyond the column footing.
