This is a page that will provide you with some insight on some of the more industry-relevant work I've been involved in.

What I Do

Framing

Framing

At my current job, I have been a Crew Lead for a great group of guys responsible for pre-fabricating wall frames from 2x6 for the exterior shell of the hotel. These frames house the windows and A/C units for the rooms and you'll find examples of this work in the portfolio section of this site.

Tyvek, Sill-Plate Weatherproofing and Rain Screen

Tyvek, Sill-Plate Weatherproofing and Rain Screen

Using commercial grade Tyvek, battery operated staple guns and a couple of 135’ Genies, the team wrapped the building envelope in weatherproofing to prepare for the final stages of closing everything up.

Window Installation

Window Installation

The installation of over 200 windows has involved an immense amount of prep work and layout using equipment such as lasers, levels and string lines from elevated work platforms and exterior scissor-lifts. Print reading to verify which window goes where, radio communication with my telehandler operator to safely fly the window into place and verification of correct placement.

P-Tac Sleeves (A/C Units)

P-Tac Sleeves (A/C Units)

A similar process to window installation, this job required weather-proofing prep work for sill plates, setting jigs to ensure the sleeve/housing lands in the correct position and pre-shimming the rough opening to the appropriate slope to allow for correct drainage to the outside of the unit.

Formwork

Formwork

My formwork experience has involved layout, rebar, custom form fabrication and Quick-Form panels for core walls, elevator walls and retaining walls. I'm familiar with whalers, wedges, snap-ties, braces, screw-jacks, block-outs for doors and windows, etc.

Sheathing and Insulation

Sheathing and Insulation

Once the 2x6 window frames were installed, my team and I insulated with fire retardant insulation and began closing up with exterior grade OSB. Skill saws, chalk lines, nail guns and tapes.

Cement Board Paneling and Aluminum Reveal Trim

Cement Board Paneling and Aluminum Reveal Trim

The reason that the windows and A/C units had alignment tolerances of ⅛” or less is because of the grid pattern of the cement board paneling. This process can not be rushed as mistakes and mis-alignment will be noticeable. We use a track-saw and a special blade to ensure a straight cut.

Scaffolding

Scaffolding

I have experience working with an ICI company as a unionized carpenter with Local 27 and have taken the specialized 3 week training course provided at the Union Training Center.
